Q - My brother has a Harmony Meteor in great shape but the the serial number is 84H8448. From what I have gathered on your site this indicates that it is an Airline. The Harmony Meteor label is on the head stock. The other stamp reads HL-59-JW. Beginning in February, 1974, wood-bodied models are prefixed with the letter D (see King 1991:42 for serial number list). The 1975 vintage Model 60 OMI dobro that I play has the serial number D 592 5 on the headstock, and a couple of years ago when I replaced the resonator, I found the date May 12.

Serial Number Year-Code Prefix

All guitars and basses have serial numbers which start with a year prefix. The prefix is the last one or two digits of the production year, and it applies to all models below.

Set-Neck Serial Numbers

The serial number of a set-neck model is located on the back of the guitar’s headstock.

After the year prefix, the remaining digits indicate the sequential order of set neck models built.

CE Models (2016 and Later)

CE Models (1988 - 2008)

EG Models

The year of manufacture is determined the same way for the EG models. Like the CE models the serial number is located on the neck plate on the back of the guitar. The following number determines the model: 5 or EG for the EG models, then the sequential number for that particular model.

S2 Models

The serial number of an S2 Series model is located on the back of the guitar’s headstock.

After the year prefix, the remaining digits indicate the sequential order of set neck models built.

Swamp Ash Special Models

The year of manufacture is determined the same way for the Swamp Ash Special. Like the CE and EG models the serial number is located on the neck plate on the back of the guitar. The following number determines the model: 8 or SA for the Swamp Ash Special, then the sequential number for that particular model * the first 200 Swamp Ash Specials were given a CE serial number.

Bolt-On Bass: Sequential Serial Numbers

After the year prefix, these models use a code digit of '4', indicating a bolt-on neck bass. This is followed by the sequential number for that particular model. The serial number will be located on the neck plate on the back of the bass.

Vintage Dobro Serial Numbers

The current Chinese ones have just about killed the market for used Regals. Posted -: 08:34:13 The guitar was more than likely given a professional setup by Paul Beard's shop.

Prior to the introduction of the Paul Beard-designed Gold Tone guitars, they did sell Regal guitars through their web site. Slade. There are no numbers on the guitar in question because Saga/Regal probably didn't give their guitars serial numbers when they started selling them.

You should contact Saga Music for identification of your guitar. Assuming it's a Regal RD-45, I would guess a worth between $200 and $400 in the condition shown in the photo. I ran across a Regal about a month ago in one of our local music shops and it had a slotted headstock like yours. I couldn't find any identification markings or numbers anywhere on the guitar but figured it was either an RD40 or RD45 from the early/mid 1990's era.

Most Regals produced since then have come out with solid headstocks (I believe?). If you find out the model, please ensure that you follow-up on this thread to let the rest of us know what it is.
